College history
The College of Communication of QUST established on March 6, 2006. In June of the same year, they employed Yuan Zhifa, the former editor-in-chief of GuangMing Daily, as the dean of the School of Communication. On November 15, 2007, it was renamed the College of Communication and Animation. On October 15, 2018, it was renamed the College of Media.
These years the College of Communication has already developed a kind of college that have cultural research, cultural product production, film and television animation, new media and communication.
Educational purpose
Under the background of global economic integration and digital informatization, cultivating creative talents with international vision and international competitiveness in various disciplines has become an urgent task of our college in this new era. The college is developing a new type of first-class discipline group. The college of communication adheres to the educational philosophy of "Quality-oriented, Responsibility as the soul, Practice as the root" and the development strategy of "Building a higher platform, Gathering talents, Down to earth". Before the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the college of communication in 2025, we will follow the guidance of multi-level and multi-form international education, and strive to make our college become a first-class in film animation, new media and cultural regions in China. Cultivating innovative and creative talents with personality traits, a certain theoretical foundation, and strong practical capabilities for the various practical cultural and creative industries, media, and academic circles of the party and the country.
Discipline setting
⊙Undergraduate:
Our college has 4 undergraduate majors which are Advertising, Editing and Publishing, Animation, Chinese Language and Literature, and have already formed a characteristic discipline chain group’s integrated development model of the "olive type". We take the Chinese Department (creative writing, cultural industry planning direction) as the leader, use the film and animation department (animation direction, game direction), advertising and film and television department (advertising, film and television advertising and microfilm) as the production platform and use the department of communication as a communication platform. All undergraduate majors form an IP transformation platform with cultural content, innovative and creative film and television animation and new media production, and new media publishing and export."

The college of communication and Middle Tennessee State University jointly established the "3+1+1 Postgraduate Cooperative Program”. Students could follow this plan which study in QUST 3years + exchange to US 1 year and then go to the United States have the postgraduate study again. After completing the master course, they can obtain a master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University in the US.
Our college could recommend graduate students to Macau University of Science and Technology to have postgraduate study.
Teaching Group
The college of communication has 79 faculty members, including 65 full-time teachers, 9 professors, 27 associate professors, 23 PhD,5 PhD candidates and 3 long-term foreign teachers. More than 99% of teachers have a master's degree or above. The college also employed several well-known experts from domestic and foreign academic circles as the part-time professor: Mo Yan, Nobel Prize winner in literature, Shao Huaze, former president of People’s Daily, Zhao Qi Zheng, former director of the State Information Office, Yu Peixia Zhou Xing Professor of Beijing Normal University, Qiao Huantian, Vice President of the Chinese Editorial Society, Hou Junzhi Director of People’s Publishing House, David Eric former Vice President of the World Animation Association, Professor Wang Shuibo, the nominee of the Oscar Short Story Animation Award, Sun Jihuan, former chairman of the Animation Festival, and Professor Matter, vice chairman of the German New Media Association. This academic advisory committee composed of masters has laid a solid foundation for the leap-forward development of our college’s unique disciplines.
International communication
To meet the demand for talents in the development strategy of China in the new era, the college has actively carried out international communication and cooperation which also could promote the rapid transformation and upgrading of domestic majors. Make every effort to build an international kind of undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD talent training platform, the Film and television animation production and industry-university innovation and entrepreneurship studio and postgraduate education. Our college strives to become a cultural and media college with a new intersection of domestic short video and video production, animation games, and new media within 5-10 years. At present, our college has established various forms of undergraduate, master, and doctoral cooperation with many well-known colleges and universities in the United States, South Korea, Britain, Germany, Italy and ASEAN countries.
